What is LEED?
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) created LEED™ with the goal of encouraging the use of established or advanced environmental principles, practices, materials and standards in commercial building projects. In 2002, the USGBC launched several new documents outlining performance criteria. These include commercial construction (LEED 2.3), existing buildings (LEED EB), commercial interiors (LEED -CI), core and shell, multiple buildings and residential.

Target Center Green Roof Design Unveiled
Kestrel Design Group, an Edina-based landscape architectural firm, has released images of what the Target Center green roof will look like when it's completed in 2009. The 113,000-square-foot green roof will be Minnesota's largest.
Peter MacDonagh, lead designer of Kestrel Design Group, said the green roof will capture 20 million gallons of stormwater each year, and will help prevent the flow of toxins and other contaminants into the Mississippi River.

Two Buffalo builds roofs, homes, its neighborhood Minneapolis St Paul Business Journal
Larry Knudsen, president of Two Buffalo Inc., was sure he could get into roofing. "A friend of mine did it, and as soon as I saw that, I figured, `If he can do it, I know I can do it!' " But roofs were just the start.
Knudsen, a self-professed graduate of the "school of hard knocks" ( "I paid $100,000 in tuition to that school"), had a little bit of experience in business. He had taken a casino management course at the American Indian Opportunity Industrial Center (OIC) School in Minneapolis. "I had a management position at Mystic Lake [Casino] and learned how to start a company," he said. "I was amazed! It wasn't hard -- just fill out some forms. I've been moving forward ever since."
